She began her legal career as a private practitioner and has practised in Toronto (Baker & McKenzie) and Hong Kong (leading local firm), specializing in international transactions and finance. She turned to the academy in 1986 and taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong before joining Tsinghua in 2002. While affiliated with the academy, she has remained active in professional activities and has served on various committees on corporate and securities law and practice. She is currently an arbitrator at the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.

　　何美欢教授于2010年8月21日因为突发脑干出血，送入北医三院救治，后因病医治无效，于2010年9月3日上午在香港玛丽女王医院逝世，享年62岁。
