It still feels very surreal that Byler (Bai Long 白龙) is no longer with us. Many thanks for sending his pictures, but I am afraid to look at them, as I know as soon as I look at the images I will not be able to stop crying. We have our collective memories of Byler, from our daily routine at Yangguanzhai (thanks for getting us soda at lunch and dinner Byler!) to special events such as our July 4th and end-of-season parties (him playing the guitar for us). However, I think what I will cherish most is my personal interaction with him. He was very passionate about archaeology (total station, anyone?) and his curiosity and willingness to learn is something I will always admire.
I hope everyone is staying strong and healthy - I am sure he will want us to do that.
